Google Launches a New Site for Google Fiber Project

Google launches FiberForCommunities site to keep users up to date with the Google Fiber project. The site currently has information about the project and call-for-action items for users to read and take action in their local communities.

Names of the communities which will have Google Fiber have not been announced yet as the company is still studying which communities make the best testing ground for the latest technologies in the beta phase. Names will be announced sometime towards the end of this year.

Here is video of an event Google organized where companies compete to see who lays the fiber optic in the shortest time. The event was organized to encourage companies to think of new ways to cut down on the time it takes to cut open the roads and lay the cable in an efficient manner. Take a look.
