How To Block/Disable Google Analytics From Tracking Your Browser


Google Analytics,
Google’s free service that allows webmasters, marketers and technologists to track website statistics in regard to the number of visits, page views, regional//national views, global audience and even more keeps track of almost all the sites you visit using the embedded in the website.

That doesn’t deter your internet browsing experience, however, it traces your visits and stores them in Google analytics database. This is apparently considered as an open privacy breach, by many, if not all, web-goers who consider ‘privacy’ as the next big thing while browsing the web.

This article will guide you on the how to by opting out of Google analytics tracking system and making your browsing-session more ‘secure’ and ‘private’. Read on to know how.

Basically, this is possible in two simple ways.

Method 1:

If Firefox is your most preferred web browser, installing a simple add-on will block Google analytics from tracking your visits to websites.

  1. Launch Firefox and install Adblock Plus add-on from Mozilla. (Here’s the link).
  2. You’ll need to restart the browser to enable the add-on.
  3. Once you restart your browser, go to any website that uses Google Analytics. About 57% of 10,000 of the most popular websites use Google Analytics, you may want to try a website of your choice.
  4. Right-click on the ABP’s icon that appears on the toolbar/status bar. Select “Open Blockable Items” from the options in the menu. You can also use “CTRL+Shift+V” keys to view the blockable items on the website.
  5. Any website that uses Google Anayltics will have the google-analytics.com URL in the list. Just rightclick the URL and select “block this item” form the menu.
  6. You are done.

Private Browsing Firefox :

Method 2:

  • You can also by going to your browser’s ‘Tools’ option and selecting CustomizeGoogle AddOn for firefox if you already have it installed.
  • If not, click here to download the Add-on now.
  • Restart Firefox and Select Tools–>Customize Google–> ‘Privacy’ from the menu which will enable .

Although, both Google and the owner/admin of that website will be able to know that you’ve visited the site, they cannot however, keep track of all the pages you’ve visited.
